  7. The file you have downloaded, !KEL.EXE contains the complete 
  8. files from the Kelvin Install/Driver disk v1.4.  This readme 
  9. file contains instructions for making a Kelvin driver disk, so 
  10. you can install the drivers.  You have already completed the 
  11. first step, by unpacking the !KEL.EXE file and reading this.

  29. Known Shortcoming in this Release
  30. ---------------------------------
  31. 1. The Windows drivers in this release may show stray pixels on 
  32.    the desktop title bars and icons with some Kelvin boards.  
  33.    This is strictly a cosmetic problem and doesn't affect the 
  34.    functionality of the drivers.  We are working on a fix.

  38. Using your Kelvin Drivers
  39. -----------------------------
  40. 1.  Copy all files (listed above) to a blank high density 3.5"   
  41.     floppy disk.
  42.  
  43. 2.  Log onto your floppy drive and run the KINSTALL.EXE program          
  44.     install the driver files to your hard drive.  You should run 
  45.     KINSTALL.EXE from DOS, not from Windows.
  46.  
  47. The KINSTALL.EXE program is menu driven, and fairly self 
  48. explanatory.  The KINSTALL menu helps you install drivers for a 
  49. variety of different applications.  If you have questions during 
  50. any part of the installation process, press the F1 key for 
  51. context sensitive help, or see your Kelvin manual for more 
  52. information.

  56. Changes in this Release  
  57. -----------------------
  58. 1.  The Windows resource usage and release issue has been fixed 
  59.     in this release.
  60.  
  61. 2.  Certain problems running DOS applications under Windows have 
  62.     been fixed in this release.
  63.  
  64. 3.  There are new drivers for AutoDesk products in this release, 
  65.     including AutoCAD 11, 12, and 13, all versions of 3D Studio, 
  66.     and AutoSketch.  The AutoCAD drivers now include icon menuing 
  67.     and spy glass.

  70. Troubleshooting
  71. ---------------
  72. The most common question the Orchid Technical Support department 
  73. gets regarding installation of Windows drivers is from people who 
  74. have installed the drivers using KINSTALL, yet when they go into 
  75. the Windows Control Panel the Kelvin driver icon doesn't show up.  
  76. This problem is almost exclusively caused by memory managers 
  77. loaded in your config.sys file.  If you're using QEMM or EMM386 
  78. (or a similar type of memory manager),  you need to exclude the 
  79. Kelvin's RAM and ROM memory area so your memory manager doesn't 
  80. try to use that area.  The syntax for EMM386 and QEMM is to add 
  81. the statement  X=A000-C7FF  to the EMM or QEMM setup line in your 
  82. config.sys file.  If you are using QEMM's "Stealth" feature (ST:M 
  83. or ST:F), you also need to add the statement XST=C000 to your 
  84. line in config.sys.  Then reboot, and look for the icon in 
  85. Windows.  If you use QEMM, it may be necessary to re-run the 
  86. Optimize program after adding the Kelvin exclusions.
